Toi toi toi to Aida Garifullina and Andrey Zhilikhovsky who make debuts in a new production of Prokofiev’s Betrothal in a Monastery this weekend at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin. This prestigious production, directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov, will be conducted by Daniel Barenboim and runs for three nights on 13, 17 and 22 April 2019. The performances are part of the Staatsoper’s Festtage 2019, which aims to highlight musical comedies, this year presenting Wagner’s Master-Singers of Nuremberg and Prokofiev’s Betrothal in a Monastery.
The performances – in which she performs the role of Luisa – mark Aida's German opera debut. Next, she returns to the Wiener Staatsoper to perform as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto.
Andrey makes his house and role debut as Don Ferdinand. Earlier this season, Andrey made his Wigmore Hall recital debut in a recital of Russian song with Iain Burnside, and his Opera di Roma debut in Le nozze di Figaro as Count Almaviva. Next, Andrey returns to Glyndebourne Opera Festival as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, and next season debuts at the Metropolitan Opera and at Bayerische Staatsoper in La bohème.
