The residency brings together 100 students from across mainland China and beyond for two weeks of mentorship with Daniel alongside special guest Ian Bostridge and an unrivalled faculty of members of top European orchestras. There will be opportunities for moments of exchange and discussion among students, as well as chamber music concerts, a community concert at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and a masterclass with young conductors from the area.
The opening concert takes places this Friday at the Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou, followed by a special evening which sees Ian treat the audience to his signature work Winterreise accompanied by Wenwen Du. The following week, Daniel conducts the YMCG Orchestra in Britten’s Nocturne with Ian as soloist, and Mahler’s Symphony No.1.
Taking place from 8-19 January in the core cities of China's Greater Bay Area, YMCG is co-organised by the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Xinghai Concert Hall, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Macao Orchestra, with co-ordination by Askonas Holt.
