Sokhiev's long-anticipated US symphonic debut
Huge congratulations to Ossetian Maestro Tugan Sokhiev who made his triumphant US symphonic debut last night with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a colourful Russian programme.
The audience jumped to their feet after a wonderful account of Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony. The programme also included works by Borodin and Khachaturian. Chicago Tribune later wrote: "He demonstrated a natural command that had this formidable group of virtuoso players on their mettle: American orchestral brilliance met Russian soul."
Sokhiev will perform the programme a further three times before returning to Europe. Later this season Maestro will work with the Vienna Philharmonic, tour to China with Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and lead several exciting projects with Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin.
