This week French saxophonist Valentine Michaud makes her debut with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in a pair of concerts on 30 September and 1 October performing Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto conducted by Vasily Petrenko.
Commenting on her debut and repertoire, Valentine said:
I’m extremely excited to perform this pillar of the saxophone repertoire with such fantastic musicians. This concerto was originally written for a Danish saxophonist to whom we owe a great part of our repertoire, so it’s an honour to be performing this here in Denmark.
Listen to Valentine and Vasily Petrenko discuss the programme here.
Valentine was the first ever wind player to receive the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award in 2020 and has already appeared at Lucerne’s KKL, Wigmore Hall, Grand Philharmonic Hall St Petersburg, Wiener Konzerthaus and Tonhalle Zurich amongst others. Future highlights include her debut with the Wiener Philharmoniker conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen at the Lucerne Festival as well as recitals at La Jolla Music Society in San Diego and the Lucerne Festival’s recital series.
