It was announced today that Yannick Nézet-Séguin has extended his contract as Music Director of The Philadelphia Orchestra, a post he has held since September 2012, through to the 2021/22 season. Please click here for the orchestra's press release.
Earlier this week, Yannick and The Philadelphia Orchestra announced their 2015/16 season. Among the many highlights are performances of Mahler's Eighth Symphony to mark the 100th anniversary of the US premiere of the piece, staged performances of Handel's Messiah and world premieres of three new works. Yannick has had a fruitful few weeks in Philadelphia leading the orchestra in their first LiveNote concert, the annual Martin Luther King Jr Tribute Concert and the Academy Ball, which also featured Al Pacino. Later this spring, audiences in Europe will be able to experience the Philadelphia Sound first-hand when Yannick leads the orchestra on a three-week tour.
