About Amina
Soprano Amina Edris has been hailed as a “revelation” (Forum Opera) and praised for her “lustrous” tone (Opera News). Born in Egypt and raised in New Zealand, she has blended her cultural background to create her own unique artistic identity, performing a variety of roles ranging from baroque music to world premieres with a focus on French repertoire. Recent career highlights include Manon and Juliette at the Opéra national de Paris, Cleopatra in the world premiere of John Adams’ Antony and Cleopatra at San Francisco Opera, and Alice in the acclaimed recording of Meyerbeer’s Robert le Diable.

Ms. Edris in her role debut as Musetta at the Théâtre de Champs-Elysées in Puccini’s beloved La bohème. This new production by Eric Ruf is co-produced with the Opéra national de Bordeaux, Angers-Nantes Opéra and Opéra de Saint-Etienne, in partnership with France TV. Ms. Edris shares the stage with Pene Pati as Rodolfo, Selene Zanetti as Mimi, Alexandre Duhamel as Marcello, Francesco Salvadori as Schaunard, Guilhem Worms as Colline, Marc Labonnette as Alcindoro / Benoît and Rodolphe Briand as Parpignol. Amina stars opposite Gerald Finely as Antony and Paul Appleby as Caesar, and the opera is conducted by Eun Sun Kim. Created for San Francisco Opera’s centennial, Antony and Cleopatra is a co-commission and co-production with Barcelona’s Liceu Opera, Palermo’s Teatro Massimo and the Metropolitan Opera. With a libretto adapted from Shakespeare’s tragedy with supplementary passages drawn from Plutarch, Virgil and other classical texts, Adams, director Elkhanah Pulitzer and dramaturg Lucia Scheckner blend the mythic imagery of antiquity with the starry glamour of 1930s Hollywood. Pulitzer heads a production team of Tony Award-winning set designer and MacArthur Fellow Mimi Lien, costume designer Constance Hoffman, lighting designer David Finn, projection designer Bill Morrison and sound designer Mark Grey. Amina Edris as Berte, Jean’s fiance and later a terrorist, commands her solos and duets, giving us a lovely performance. Bass Nate Mattingly of the chorus is noteworthy in his solo.
