About Armand

British-Sri Lankan baritone Armand Rabot is a current member of the Bayerische Staatsoper Opernstudio. He was previously part of the Aix-en-Provence Festival Académie in 2025 and a Young Singers Project artist at the Salzburger Festspiele in 2024, and he studies with Ben Johnson.

Armand is the recent recipient of the prestigious Grange Festival Prize, as well as First Prize, the Audience Prize, and the Language Prize at the Hurn Court Opera Singer of the Year Competition. He has also been awarded the Junior Kathleen Ferrier Bursary.

Recent projects include his return to Salzburger Festspiele to sing Roucher Andrea Chénier, concert appearances with Graham Johnson, Dreams of Gerontius at Truro Cathedral and Saffron Hall.

    • Wirklich großartig sangen und spielten Seonwoo Lee als naive Land-Katze Minette und Armand Rabot als ihr liebestoller Kater Tom.

    • Dass der Erfolg bei ihr hat, ist schon wegen des kraftvoll einschmeichelnden Timbres von Bariton Armand Rabot gut nachvollziehbar.

    • [Baritone] Armand Rabot gibt seinem Tom starke energetische Präsenz und Dynamik. Wenn er singt, ist er und damit ich ganz im Moment und zuweilen in einem glücklichen dazu.

    • Tom, l’amant malheureux qui finira richissime avant d’être assassiné, est superbement incarné par le baryton Armand Rabot, lui aussi impeccable comédien. Son duo avec Minette au premier acte, lorsque les deux voix se superposent aux autres voix solistes, est proprement envoûtant, comme envoûtante est d’ailleurs l’orchestration de Henze, et pas seulement dans les (nombreux) interludes.

    • Mit Armand Rabot als Tom hatte sie einen adäquaten Partner, der mit ausgesprochen schönem Timbre nachhaltigen Eindruck hinterließ; wunderbar ihr gemeinsames Liebesduett.

    • Freilich kommt es, wie es kommen muss. Romanhaft eben. Minette verliebt sich nach anfänglichem Zögern in den armen Teufel Tom, offenbar so eine Art Dachkater, den Armand Rabot schauspielerisch und gesanglich eindrucksvoll gibt. Sie trifft sich heimlich mit ihm, katzengerecht auf einem Dach, das übliche Geturtel und Geschmuse, er liebt sie auch, ach, wie schön das ist, dass man die Schnurrhaare hinein fantasiert.

    • Una nueva y muy apreciada incorporación al Estudio de Ópera, el barítono inglés Armand Rabot, en el papel del gato Tom, enciende el escenario (y la azotea) con una poderosa presencia y una voz atronadora: una interpretación excepcional.

    • Armand Rabot almost stole the show as the ferryman. He had immense power in his bass baritone and brought a nuanced reading to the role – even the odd flash of cynical humour in this largely dark and unsettling opera. Oliver Bowes also brought the character of the sympathetic traveller to life – powerfully sung and delicately portrayed.
