About Dmitri

Dmitri Tcherniakov was born in Moscow in 1970. He graduated from the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts in Moscow and since then, has directed opera and theatre productions across Russia, Europe and the USA.

Long considered to be one of the most renowned directors in opera, Tcherniakov has received various accolades throughout his career including The International Opera Awards in the categories ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Production’, the Italian music critics' award ‘Franco Abbiati’ (2008) and the Spanish prize National Campoamor Lyrics Awards (2014). He has also been awarded the Russian National Theatre Prize ‘Golden Mask’ four times, and Opernwelt magazine has on several occasions named him Stage Director and Stage Designer of the year.

As well as directing, Tcherniakov has also served as the set designer for all his productions.
