He also makes a role debut singing Duca in Rigoletto at Teatro Real Madrid, and returns to Bayerische Staatsoper and the Royal Opera House for Lucia di Lammermoor, singing the role of Edgardo.
Last season, Xabier made his Metropolitan Opera debut singing Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore, which was celebrated by critics including Opera Wire who called him “a star in the making” and the New York Times who declared that “time seemed to stop” during his performance of ‘Una furtiva lagrima’. He followed this with a new production of Cosi fan tutte at Bilbao Opera, where he also sang Arturo in I puritani.
In 2019, Xavier was named First Prize winner and Zarzuela winner at Operalia. He is also the recipient of an International Opera Award, an Ópera Actual Award and an Ópera XXI Award.
