The Alehouse Sessions (USA)

Introduction

Imagine you are in a tavern in London in the middle of the 1600s. Oliver Cromwell has closed the theatres because they are considered unnecessary entertainment during times of civil war. So, what do all the out-of-work actors and musicians do? They go to the pub, of course!

Guests in London taverns of the day could encounter improvised shows with a mixture of art music, drama and folk pieces. Inspired by history, Bjarte Eike and Barokksolistene bring us a show straight from the 1600s – with a heady mix of sea shanties, dance tunes, folk ballads and music for the stage.
