Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum

Introduction

Members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig have come together in the New Bach Collegium Musicum (NBCM) to breathe new life into the Baroque tradition of the „Collegium Musicum“ – an ensemble directed by Johann Sebastian Bach in Leipzig. „New“ in the ensemble’s name reflects not only the continuation of the traditions of Leipzig’s „Collegium Musicum“ in the present day, but also an articulation of how modern, contemporary and expressive Baroque music sounds when performed by NBCM. Combining a love of music-making with fresh approaches to tradition and historically informed performance, NBCM brings together tradition and modernity in a way that creates unique and original concert experiences for both lovers of Baroque music and completely new audiences.
