Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal
Introduction
Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal is one of Quebec’s major cultural ambassadors. Since its founding in 1981, the orchestra has adopted a distinctive approach that reflects its desire to develop and promote symphonic music and make it accessible to all. Comprised of musicians trained at conservatories and faculties of music in Quebec, the orchestra has acquired an enviable reputation for the quality of its concerts and recordings. Under the artistic direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin since 2000, the orchestra has seen its reputation grow in Canada and abroad, due in large part to the exceptional closeness that has developed between the conductor and musicians.
Orchestre Métropolitain has made some 20 recordings, mainly for the Canadian label ATMA Classique, with several winning national awards and international recognition. In November 2016, the orchestra made its first recording for Deutsche Grammophon, in collaboration with singers Rolando Villazón and Ildar Abdrazakov. The recording was released on 22 September 2017.
Askonas Holt was delighted to work with the orchestra for the first time, on its debut European tour in November 2017, followed a US tour in November 2019 with Joyce DiDonato, and look forward to continuing with a second US tour in March 2023.
