Daniel Carter, Music Director of the DNT Weimar has been a regular conductor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2019, at Malmö Opera since 2024, and at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm since 2025.

In the 2026/27 season, Carter returns to Malmö Opera for a new production of Rusalka and to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for the revival of Nixon in China - a production he originally conducted at its premiere in 2024. This season in Weimar, Carter is conducting new productions of Messiah, Parsifal, and Amphitryon.

Highlights of recent seasons at Deutsche Oper Berlin include Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Carmen and Die Fledermaus, alongside Siegfried at the Leipzig Opera, Pelléas et Mélisande at Bühnen Bern, and his debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.

Daniel studied Composition and Piano Performance at the University of Melbourne, Australia. During his studies he worked as Developing Artist Conductor and Musical Assistant to the Music Director at Victorian Opera. In 2012 he was awarded the Brian Stacey Award for Emerging Australian Conductors. This was followed by multiple engagements with Victorian Opera (including the Australian Premiere of Elliott Carter’s What Next?), Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, Sydney Theatre Company, the Sydney and Melbourne Festivals, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Australian Youth Orchestra.
