About Eric

Eric Ferring's recent engagements have included Tamino The Magic Flute, Arturo Lucia di Lammermoor, Pong Turandot and Royal Herald Don Carlo for The Metropolitan Opera, New York; Lurcanio Ariodante for the Opéra national de Paris and the Lyric Opera of Chicago; Lysander A Midsummer Night's Dream for the Opéra de Rouen Normandie; Fenton Falstaff in Santa Fe and Tamino for the Opéra national du Rhin.

Other engagements have included a return to the Opéra de Rouen Normandie as Don Ottavio Don Giovanni, his debut with the Opéra de Lille in the same role, and Grimoaldo Rodelinda in an international concert tour with The English Concert and Harry Bicket.

Ferring recently released his debut solo album with pianist Madeline Slettedahl entitled No Choice but Love: Songs of the LGBTQ+ Community with Lexicon Classics. His next album, We have tomorrow, features chamber works by Barber, Beach, Brahms and Fauré with Madeline Slettedahl and Quatuor Agate and is released this autumn on the Delos label.

His performance in Chicago Lyric Opera’s production of I Pagliacci was nominated for and won a 2022 Emmy Award.

    • Le ténor américain témoigne quant à lui d’une belle évolution au cours de la soirée : s'il se montre un tendre et timide amoureux au départ, « Il tuo sangue » montre qu’il est tout à fait capable d’exprimer aussi une véhémence qu’on ne lui soupçonnait pas en début de la soirée. [translation] The American tenor shows a beautiful evolution over the course of the evening: he shows himself to be a tender and shy lover at the start, but Il tuo sangue shows that he is also capable of expressing a vehemence which we did not expect from him at the start of the night.

    • Eric Ferring sang Lurcanio with a more embodied tenor tone then we are used to hearing in the lighter repertoire. It was rather satisfying to hear good phrasing and a voice uniform voice in all registers. His high notes sound natural and free; his tone is neither boyish or juvenile.
