    • 'Francisco has his own language', Esfahani remarks to me, ‘but you can’t expect him in a new piece always to do what he does – he’s uncynical whereas many other composers become flabby and do the same thing over again. The concerto is written in such a way that anything that happens in the harpsichord has a rippling effect in the ensemble. It has a highly theatrical character, and a constant dialogue which is the definition of a great concerto.’
