About Guy

British tenor Guy Cutting is recognised internationally for his warmth of tone, intelligent musicianship and deep engagement with text, and is especially sought after as an interpreter of Bach. A regular soloist with Collegium Vocale Gent and Philippe Herreweghe, he is in particular demand as the Evangelist of the Bach Passions. He has appeared at many leading halls and festivals, including the BBC Proms, Teatro alla Scala, Philharmonie Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Tonhalle Zürich, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Carnegie Hall.

Highlights of the 26/27 season include Britten Les Illuminations with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Septimius in an international tour of Handel's Theodora with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra and Christophe Rousset, Evangelist in St Matthew Passion in a European Tour with RIAS Kammerchor and Bach Cantata 78 with Sir Simon Rattle and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Guy has worked with many of the foremost figures in historically informed performance, including Masaaki Suzuki, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Jonathan Cohen, and Leonardo García Alarcón. He made his BBC Proms debut with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and John Butt in Bach’s Mass in B minor. He has also appeared with the Academy of Ancient Music, Arcangelo, American Bach Soloists, and Handel + Haydn Society.

Beyond the Baroque, Guy’s repertoire extends to the 21st century. He has appeared with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, Bergen Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. A committed recitalist, he has performed Schubert with Kristian Bezuidenhout for OAE and English song with George Ireland at the Crete Senesi Festival. He is a founding member of the Damask Vocal Quartet.

Guy appears on numerous award winning recordings: Cappella Amsterdam's recording of Stravinsky Late Works and Irish Baroque Orchestra's Messiah were both awarded Gramophone Editor's Choice and BBC Music Magazine Choral Choice. His recording of Gabriel Jackson’s The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ won the Choral category at the 2020 BBC Music Magazine Awards. Guy's debut album of English song will be released in 2027.

A former chorister and choral scholar at New College, Oxford, Guy graduated with a first-class degree in Music. He was the inaugural recipient of the American Bach Soloists’ Jeffrey Thomas Award and a Rising Star of the Enlightenment.
