His recordings include the concertos by Dvořák, Lalo, Elgar, Lutosławski, Dutilleux, Tchaikovsky, Thomas Olesen and Fabrice Bollon (electric cello), which have gained him the prestigious Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik and the Diapason d’Or. In 2022, Johannes Moser released a highly innovative new album on the Platoon label featuring six new commissions for electric cello, alongside multi-layered arrangements of works for cello ensemble utilising DOLBY ATMOS’ revolutionary new audio technology, and about which The Strad commented: "…there’s no questioning Moser’s ambition, nor the sheer sense of verve with which he pulls it all off…”. Alone Together is one of the first classical music albums to use multi-tracking so extensively.
Johannes is renowned for his efforts to expand the reach of the classical genre to all audiences, and his passionate involvement in commissioning new works for his instrument.
Johannes Moser performs on an Andrea Guarneri Cello from 1694 from a private collection.

Johannes Moser to release experimental cello project

Johannes Moser today announced the release of his next album, an experimental cello project with digital label Platoon.
Featuring six new commissions for electric cello, alongside multi-layered octophonic arrangements of pieces for cello ensemble, Alone Together creates the impression of sound moving around the listener in three dimensions. The album is one of the first full-length classical recordings to use multi-tracking so extensively, taking advantage of Dolby Atmos technology in a way that has not been seen in contemporary classical music before.
Commenting on the concept, Johannes said, “The spatial aspect of the music was just as much a part of the programming as the artistic and musical vision of this repertoire, which represents a strong aspect of who I am and what the pandemic has also forced me to be - a need to be a multifaceted musician creating musical environments just using my cello.” For the album, Johannes alternates between his 1694 Guarneri instrument and a Ned Steinberger electric cello.
Six of the fourteen pieces on the album have been commissioned by Johannes for the project, with pieces by acclaimed prize-winners including Ellen Reid, Nina Young, Christopher Cerrone, Annie Gosfield, Ted Hearne and Timo Andres. Johannes has had a passion for new music since the early days of his career. His first commission for electric cello was Magnetar by Enrico Chapela in 2011, which premiered with Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Philharmonic.
Alone Together will be released digitally through Platoon on 17 June 2022.
