About Maximilian
Maximilian made his Helsinki Philharmonic debut in December 2025 as part of a concert marking Sibelius’ 160th anniversary at the Musiikkitalo. This season sees him conduct the Jyväskylä Sinfonia, Seinäjoki City Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, and the world premiere of Ida Moberg’s Asiens ljus for Opera Box.
In September 2024 Maximilian was awarded First Prize at the inaugural Jorma Panula Minikapu Conducting Competition. He continues to study orchestral conducting with Panula in Helsinki and at the Sibelius Academy.
Born in 2006, Maximilian already has a burgeoning career as a pianist. In January 2025 he was awarded First Prize at the Leevi Madetoja Piano Competition, while recent highlights include his debut with the Oulu Sinfonia and Turku Philharmonic as soloist in Arvo Pärt’s Lamentate.
Maximilian began his piano studies at the age of six with Junio Kimanen and went on to study with Liisa Malmivaara and Antti Hotti at the Helsinki Conservatory. He was also mentored by Ralf Gothoni, Matti Raekallio and Sir András Schiff at the Youth Piano Academy of Finland.
