About Shawn
“An exceptionally promising young tenor” (Parterre Box), Shawn Roth is a recent graduate of the Butler Studio at Houston Grand Opera.
In the 2025-2026 season, he appears as Il venditore in Il Tabarro (HGO), Curley in Of Mice and Men (HGO), and Da-ud in Die Ägyptische Helena (Bard Summerscape Festival). In the 2024-2025 season, he debuted as Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhäuser (HGO), covered Erik in Der fliegende Holländer (Des Moines Metro Opera), competed in the final round of the Neue Stimmen competition in Gütersloh, Germany, won Third Prize in the Houston Saengerbund Awards, debuted Don José in Carmen (Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra), and made his New York solo recital debut with the Wagner Society of New York, after winning First Prize in the 2024 WSNY Singers Awards. Roth is a winner of the Marilyn Horne Song Competition, a two-time district winner of The Laffont Competition, and recently competed in the 2026 Belvedere Competition in Jūrmala, Latvia. He is an alumnus of Oberlin Conservatory, Academy of Vocal Arts, and is a three-time fellow of Music Academy of the West.
Roth will join the Bayerische Staatsoper Studio for the 2026-2027 season, where he will sing First Armored Man in Die Zauberflöte, Third Squire in Parsifal, Brühlmann in Werther, and High Priest in Idomeneo.
