Joyce DiDonato: EDEN
Introduction
Fusing music, movement and theatre, EDEN is a breath-taking, through-performed tour de force from the multi-award winning Joyce DiDonato that’s been immediately celebrated as “iconic” and “ground-breaking.” By traveling seamlessly through four centuries of music, including a new commission from Academy-Award winning composer, Rachel Portman, a searing and singular experience of hope and connection unfolds. DiDonato is joined by her long-standing, celebrated musical partners, il Pomo d'Oro and Maxim Emelyanychev.
In each city, EDEN engages a local children’s choir who will participate in workshops with bespoke curricula created by International Teaching Artists Collaborative on local environmental issues in their city, to raise awareness for climate change. They then perform the EDEN anthem with Joyce and il pomo d’oro on stage as part of the performance.
And the EDEN experience continues to grow outside of the concert hall as each audience member receives seeds to plant as Joyce asks: “In this time of upheaval, which seed will you plant today?”

EDEN has been commissioned by University Musical Society of the University of Michigan; the Harriman-Jewell Series, Kansas City; Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation; Cal Performances at University of California, Berkeley; and Stanford Live.

Joyce DiDonato’s EDEN comes to a close after 50 concerts on four continents

Joyce DiDonato takes the stage in Warsaw alongside il Pomo d’Oro for the final performance of her critically acclaimed concert experience, EDEN in collaboration with Askonas Holt.
The tour kicked off in March 2022 with a tour of Europe, followed the next month by six dates in North America. After further tours on both continents in 2022 and 2023, Joyce and the orchestra headed to Asia and South America this year, followed by the final tour or Europe ending this evening in Poland.
The reach of the project has been huge; alongside 50 concerts on four continents, the engagement programme saw 3,000 children take part in a series of workshops around the climate emergency in partnership with the International Teaching Artists Collaborative. Over 75,000 seeds of 16 varieties were distributed to audience members in collaboration with Botanical Garden Conservation International. Combined with streamed and recorded performances, the concert series has been experienced by more than 15 million viewers worldwide.
The accompanying album on Warner Classics earned an Opus Klassik Award and multiple nominations, including at the Grammys, and was praised by critics including at Gramophone who claimed the album brought them to tears. A film of the concert at Ancient Olympia in April featured a performance of the Olympic Anthem sung with children’s choirs in three languages and is available to watch on ARTE TV until 19 October.
