Lullula Music

Introduction

Lullula Music is a new voice in classical music for early childhood, creating innovative programming for young audiences with nature, the voice, and the child’s experience at its core.

The Birds is the first program of Lullula Music’s immersive song recital series for babies and children. Over three connected and cyclical programs – The Birds, The Flower, and In the Forest – Lullula Music reimagines the boundaries and possibilities of the Lied recital, drawing it anew from the perspective of a young child.

The Birds premiered at the Pierre Boulez Saal in the 2023/24 season and will appear in the Resnick Education Wing of Carnegie Hall in 2025/26.

Designed as a first concert experience, The Birds weaves Lieder and art song together with children’s songs, rhymes, and lullabies from the Americas and Europe. An immersive, multi-channel sound installation from Studio Brod in Berlin bridges the natural world with the concert hall, layering the program’s storytelling with a sense of magical, musical realism. Through guided moments in which children and adults alike are invited to sing and move together, Lullula performances create space for belonging and joy in Lied – for our most important audience yet.

Each recital can be accompanied by a highly participatory song workshop. Drawing on Lullula Music’s own curriculum, workshops present a story-led deep dive into the musical material of The Birds – a powerful and playful experience within the world of Lieder and the child's process of vocal discovery.
