This week Sunwook Kim makes his European conducting debut with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Sunwook will conduct the orchestra in three performances which pairs Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 and Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 'Emperor' with Sunwook play-directing the latter from the piano.

Sunwook made his international conducting debut in January this year with the KBS Symphony, conducting Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 and play-directing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.2 for which the Korea Herald commented:

Kim is recognized for his passionate performances on the piano. However, as a conductor, Kim delighted the audience with a different side to him, showing delicate yet powerful gestures…

Commenting on his debut with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Sunwook said:

I am extremely delighted to play and conduct the Bournemouth Symphony this week. Being a conductor has been a dream since my childhood but it took time and determination to make this happen. With Bournemouth Symphony, we have built up great trust and it has been a wonderful journey as their soloist since 2011. I am so happy to have my debut as a conductor with them and I hope you can join to our concert through the live streaming.

The performances take place on 20 October (Lighthouse, Poole), 21 October (Guildhall, Portsmouth) and 22 October (The Anvil, Basingstoke) and the performance on 20 October will be live-streamed via the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra website and available for 30 days on-demand following the performance.
