Juan José Landaeta Symphony Orchestra
Introduction
The Juan José Landaeta Symphony Orchestra orchestra is full of freshness, dynamism, and versatility, heir to the artistic excellence that characterizes the ensembles of Venezuela's National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras and Choirs. It comes from a rich musical tradition; its musicians possess the energy of youth and the experience to perform demanding repertoires.
Its solid musical level has been carefully forged by two outstanding associate conductors, Christian Vásquez and Jesús Uzcátegui, as well as a diverse group of Venezuelan conductors, including Enluis Montes Olivar, Rodolfo Saglimbeni, Joshua Dos Santos, and Pablo Castellanos. It has also become an important source of opportunities for young Venezuelan soloists with a consistently high level of technical skill.
The Juan José Landaeta Orchestra has embraced musical and educational challenges, both in regular concerts and special events, collaborating with national and international conductors and soloists. Highlights include three concerts during the International Book Fair (FIL Zócalo 2025) in Mexico City and an invitation to Beijing to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Venezuela in 2024. Other notable performances include participation in the 2018 Tchaikovsky Festival, the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival) with the French Embassy, the Rossini Gala commemorating the 150th anniversary of his death, the European Soloists Festival, and the Latin American Music Festival, among others.
Its name not only pays homage to the eminent Venezuelan composer but also to the first orchestra founded by Maestro José Antonio Abreu in 1975, which debuted on January 28, 2018, as a prelude to the 43rd anniversary celebration of El Sistema.
