Kyiv Camerata
Introduction
‘Kyiv Camerata’, the National Ensemble of Soloists, is Ukraine’s leading chamber orchestra. Celebrated for its exceptional virtuosity and commitment to promoting Ukrainian music across all styles and periods, the Kyiv Camerata regularly collaborates with leading Ukrainian composers, including Victoria Vita Poleva and Alexander Rodin, among others.
The Kyiv Camerata was founded in 1977 by renowned Ukrainian conductor and pianist Valery Matyukhin, with the support of the Ukrainian Union of Composers to champion and commission works by leading contemporary composers. From this unique position within the Ukrainian musical world, it has given premieres of hundreds of works by Ukrainian composers, including Valentin Sylvestrov, Yevgeny Stankovych, and Myroslav Skoryck. In 2000 the orchestra was awarded the official status of a ‘National’ institution in recognition of its significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian musical art and culture.
Throughout nearly half a century of music making, the Kyiv Camerata has performed Ukrainian music around the world with concerts in the UK, the US, Poland, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria and elsewhere.
