About Christina

German mezzo soprano, Christina Bock, is known for her radiant colourful voice and her fearless, adventurous characters on stage. Her own unique genre-blending concert creations have garnered great acclaim. Since her professional debut at the age of 20, she has been a member of both the International Opernstudio and Ensemble of the Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe and from 2014-2020 was a member of the Ensemble at Semperoper Dresden, debuting many core lyric mezzo roles. She is a regular guest at the Wiener Staatsoper and Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, as well as the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Opera National de France, and the Salzburg Festival. Bock regularly performs in recital and with different chamber music ensembles, international festivals and interdisciplinary projects. Current and recent engagements have included new productions at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège (Prince Orlofsky/Die Fledermaus) at the Bayerische Staatsoper and Wiener Staatsoper (Octavian/Rosenkavalier).

In concert this season she sings Mahler's Second Symphony with both the Filarmonica Toscanini and the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, and makes her debut with the Wiener Symphoniker. Her debut recording will be released in 2026 by Lexicon Classics.

    • The energy of Act II, with these few reservations, carries us along in the expected sonic intoxication, thanks to the thoroughly classy interpretation by Christina Bock (Prince Orlofsky), perfect as master of ceremonies.

    • Christina Bock’s performance as the cross-dressed Prince Orlofsky is remarkable in every respect. The mezzo-soprano sings her aria “Ich lade gern mir Gäste ein” with taste, avoiding any excess; the timbre is shimmering, and the vocal line carefully shaped

    • The mezzo-soprano Christina Bock did the only right thing: her style of performance repeatedly hinted at irony, but in such small doses that it did not thwart the hymn-like spirit of the songs. Her sustaining mezzo flooded the room magnificently.

    • Unexpectedly rich in contours, you can experience Christina Bock in an absolutely brilliant role. Singing, acting skills and the terrific talent to imitate the Russian accent to perfection complete the character role of the jovial host. I like to invite myself guests" sings the vocally brightly coloured mezzo-soprano with expressive depth convincingly absorbing, so that the generous nature and the casual tone gestural, mimic and vocal are unequivocally taken away from her. In the stream of fire of the vines" the concentrated temperament of Bock then really breaks ground...
