About Erina

First Kapellmeister: Komische Oper Berlin

German-born conductor Erina Yashima is the First Kapellmeister at the Komische Oper Berlin, starting her tenure in September 2022.

Yashima had previously been the Assistant Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra between 2019 and 2022, where she assisted Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and conducted the orchestra in concerts in Philadelphia and Saratoga.

As a rising star in the industry, Yashima has performed all over the world with acclaimed ensembles and orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestra. Recent highlights include debuts with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, and the Charlotte Symphony. At the Komische Oper Berlin Yashima conducted a variety of productions and programmes, including Die Zauberflöte, Rusalka, Così fan tutte, Hamlet, and the 75 Years KOB Anniversary Gala. Further highlights included Don Giovanni, at the Ravenna Festival, Teatro Galli in Rimini, and Teatro Verdi in Salerno.

In season 2023-24 on the opera stage, Yashima will continue her work at the Komische Oper Berlin conducting a new opera by Nils Holgersson as well as various concerts. She also makes her debut at English National Opera conducting The Magic Flute, and at the Bregenzer Festspiele with Der Freischütz. In the concert hall, Yashima will return to lead the Orchestra della Toscana and make her debut with the North Carolina Symphony, Nuremberg Symphony, and Tonkünstler Orchester.

Since winning the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Sir Georg Solti Conducting Apprenticeship in 2015, Erina has been mentored by Riccardo Muti.
