About Jakub Józef

One of the most beloved and celebrated opera stars of this decade, Jakub Józef Orliński has established himself as one of the world’s leading artists, triumphing on stage, in concert, and in recording. His sold-out concerts and recitals throughout Europe, America and Asia have attracted new followers to the art form. His album #LetsBaRock was released in September 2024, following the success of Beyond, which was released in October 2023; both albums will continue to tour the world through the 2025/26 season. Orliński has been the recipient of many prestigious awards such as the Opus Klassik award for Male Singer of the Year (2023), the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for Merit to Culture in Poland (2024), the BBC Music Magazine Award for his performance in Beyond, Great Britain (2024), the International Classical Music Award for his album Anima Aeterna, France (2022), as well as two Grammy nominations for recordings of Agrippina and Eurydice.

Jakub has a global fanbase with hundreds of thousands of social media followers and has worked as a model and influencer with international brands including Rolex, Netflix, Orange, Louis Vuitton, Levi’s, Nike, BMW, Lacoste, and MAC Cosmetics. He is also an accomplished breakdancer – prizes include fourth place at the Red Bull BC One Poland Cypher competition, and second place at both the Stylish Strike – Top Rock Contest and The Style Control competition. Few other opera singers can claim to have conquered the stages of the world’s greatest concert halls and the covers of Polish Vogue, Esquire, and Elle, but this is a testament to Jakub’s unique pop star appeal. His “ravishing” (The Guardian) live performances have sold out concert halls and opera houses all over the world.

For the upcoming 2025/26 season, Orliński is set to continue his dynamic presence on the global stage with a series of exciting concerts, recitals, and tours. The start of the season will see him embark on a #LetsBaRock tour across Europe, the innovative live project with Aleksander Dębicz. In London, he will give two highly anticipated Wigmore Hall recitals. December 2025 promises further highlights, including a tour with Il Giardino d’Amore and performances of Handel's Messiah alongside Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra. The beginning of 2026 will bring him back onto the opera stage as Athamas in Handel's Semele at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. February 2026 features a Giulio Cesare tour across Europe with Il Pomo d’Oro. Later in the season, Orliński will embark on various recitals across Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Shanghai, followed by a broader European recital tour in May 2026. Orliński will also make his debut recital at La Scala in Milan at the end of the season.

In the 2024/25 season, Orliński continued his extensive European tour of his album Beyond with Il Pomo d’Oro, and debuted his project #LetsBaRock with Aleksander Dębicz at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and at Kammermusiksaal of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He performed the role of Ottone in Agrippina at Opernhaus Zurich, and had many oratorio performances, including Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and Handel’s Deborah in Utrecht, Paris, Vienna, and Bayreuth. Previous season highlights include performances on the prestigious stages of the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms, Opéra Royal in Versailles, The Athens Epidaurus Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival. Orliński was also an acclaimed performer at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

As an exclusive recording artist for Warner Classics/Erato, Jakub has earned critical acclaim for his recordings of undiscovered early music gems. His album, Beyond, released in October 2023, was named one of The Times’ best classical albums of the year. In September 2024, he released #LetsBaRock, an innovative album reimagining baroque music with contemporary instruments, including drums, bass guitar and moog.

  • Semele

    Munich Opera Festival
    Jul 2023
    • Jakub Jozef Orlinski, the countertenor in the role of Athamas, is also a breakdancer, which Guth spotlights when his character desperately attempts to entertain Semele. Charismatic and handsome, Orlinski stopped the show with the applause his dance earned. But more enchanting was the purity of his sound — sublimely crystalline in “Come, Zephyrs, come” — which blended warmly with the lower end of Athamas’s altolike tessitura.

  • Orfeo ed Euridice

    San Francisco Opera
    Nov 2022
    • The brilliant Polish countertenor, Jakub Józef Orlínski, was almost more than superlative. It was easy to become mesmerized by the performance: there were no intermissions for nearly 90 minutes. His voice is creamy, dynamic, resonant, and with remarkable range. It was hard not to try to hang on every note, each so rich and beautiful in its own right. In addition to this, he sang the whole work with great immediacy. We felt his grief and his disorientation through every stage of its evolution. Hearing and witnessing it, we remained entirely under his spell.

    • Ozawa’s production features Polish countertenor Jacub Jósef Orlinski, in a physically and psychologically complex presentation of the work. Orlinski displayed a beautiful countertenor, exhibiting both power and expressiveness. He performed Gluck’s most famous aria, Che farò senza Euridice, with such elegance that it was the vocal highlight of the performance.

  • Beyond Tour

    North America
    Apr 2024
    • Bing Concert Hall, Stanford: This recital was truly a remarkable achievement for both Orlinski and the members of il Pomo d’Oro, a collaborative effort that was marked by high levels of showmanship, respect, and dedication to the lost art.

    • Berkley: His clarion sound and liquidity of voice produce a focused alto that can describe the curlicues of Baroque coloratura with deadeye accuracy and caress the beauty of long melodic lines.

  • Tolomeo

    Teatro Real
    May 2023
• BBC Proms - BEYOND with Il Pomo d'Oro

    Royal Albert Hall, London
    Jul 2024
    • Over an hour-and-a-half, the irresistibly likable Polish countertenor ran the gamut from A to Z, embodying pining lovers, men on the verge, and one of those comical cross-dressing old ladies with which baroque opera abounds. The voice was in magnificent shape, firm, flexible and easily ample enough to fill the cavernous space. The acting, across an unbroken dozen musical numbers, was bold and winning. Costumes, lighting, and yes, a burst of his trademark breakdancing, were all part of a generous mix that roamed across 17th-century Italy and beyond. Orchestral contributions were tight and tangy. In a word, stellar.
