Designate Winner (Finalist): Rotterdam International Conducting Competition 2024-25
Polish-born Jakub Przybycień is Assistant Conductor with the Orquestra Sinfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, a position he has held since the start of the 2023/24 season. He was semi-finalist of the Malko Conducting Competition 2024, where he conducted the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. He was the recipient of the Neeme Järvi Prize at the 2021 Gstaad Conducting Academy.
Recent conducting debuts include Berner Symphonieorchester, Szczecin & Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. He is Chief Conductor of the Zürcher Orchester Sozietät. He has worked with orchestras including London Symphony Orchestra, Balthasar-Neumann Ensembles, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Musikkollegium Winterthur and Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen.
Jakub has participated in masterclasses with conductors such as Neeme & Paavo Järvi, Marin Alsop, Jaap van Zweden, Thomas Hengelbrock, Péter Eötvös, Jorma Panula & Michael Sanderling. He studied in Zurich with Prof. Johannes Schlaefli and Christoph-Mathias Mueller.
An accomplished violinist, Jakub studied violin at the Academy of Arts in Bern and played in the European Union Youth Orchestra, where he worked with conductors including Manfred Honeck & Bernard Haitink.

Jakub Przybycień and Miguel Sepúlveda named Askonas Holt Conducting Fellows

Askonas Holt is pleased to welcome Jakub Przybycień (29, Poland) and Miguel Sepúlveda (26, Portugal) to its Conducting Fellowship programme. Both Miguel and Jakub reached the semifinals of the Malko Competition in Copenhagen in April 2024 – making their debut with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra – and will also compete in the International Conducting Competition in Rotterdam later this month.
Jakub Przybycień is Assistant Conductor at the Orquestra Sinfònica de Barcelona and regularly collaborates with the Balthasar-Neumann Ensembles. Recent debuts include concerts with Berner Symphonieorchester, Szczecin Philharmonic and Opole Philharmonic. Jakub currently studies with Johannes Schlaefli and Christoph-Mathias Mueller in Zurich where he is also Chief Conductor of the Zürcher Orchester Sozietät. He was the recipient of the Neeme Järvi Prize at the 2021 Gstaad Conducting Academy.
Miguel Sepúlveda won Portugal’s Prémio Jovens Músicos in 2022 and now regularly conducts the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto and Orquestra Metropolitana. In the UK he has conducted the BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Manchester Camerata, having gained his Masters from the Royal Northern College of Music under Mark Heron and Clark Rundell. Forthcoming debuts include concerts with the Deutsche Philharmonie Merck and Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester.
Miguel and Jakub join current Askonas Conducting Fellows Luis Castillo-Briceño, Polina Lebedieva, Julie Røssland, Sasha Scolnik-Brower and John Warner. Established in 2019, the programme provides Fellows with bespoke mentorship from experienced managers, in addition to a regular programme of workshops and one-to-ones with senior conductors and leading industry professionals on topics such as marketing and programming.
