This weekend sees Luis Toro Araya make his debut with l’Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège as part of the city’s Fête de la Musique. He conducts works by Ravel, Ginastera, Horovitz, Bartók and de Falla in a concert featuring the young talents of the four higher music schools of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.
The appearance follows his debut earlier this month with the Staatsorchester Braunschweig when he stepped in to conduct two concerts of Wagner, Mozart and Schumann. His performance prompted the Cellesche Zeitung to comment, “It seemed more like the conducting of a wise old master than that of a 27-year-old substitute”. The Chilean conductor also recently extended his contract as Assistant Conductor of Orquesta Nacional de España, which will see him conduct the orchestra at La Rioja Festival in May 2024.
Next season also includes several more debuts for Luis, including with Dresdner Philharmonie, Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal, Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Televisión Española.
