Otello (Desdemona)
Teatro Regio di ParmaSep 2025Mariangela Sicilia takes the prize for emotion. The Italian soprano portrays a Desdemona of poignant nobility. Her luminous voice, of exemplary flexibility, unfolds sometimes with modesty, sometimes with a rare intensity. The singer never seeks beauty for its own sake, nor gratuitous effect. She serves the text and the music with a rare intelligence. Her nuances— crescendi, diminundi, suspended pianissimi —are infinitely delicate, always in the service of emotion. Her Willow Aria is overwhelming, the farewell to Emilia brings tears to the eyes, and the final prayer is disarmingly sincere (one has the impression that the voice is ready to break under the weight of despair). A very high-quality interpretation, which confirms a major artist, certainly deserving of increased international recognition.

Mariangela Sicilia 's Desdemona is the true soul of this show. Her powerful vocal timbre, expressive grit, and stage presence paint a strong and self-aware figure who rationally seeks to understand and finds only in herself, in her final, moving prayer, the strength to face her terrible fate.

Mariangela Sicilia shone as Desdemona , a soprano at the height of her exquisite lyrical qualities—a rounded, luminous voice, enchanting piani and pianissimo, and dazzling high notes—which, combined with an intense and never affected expressive sensitivity, made her an ideal interpreter for a role where vocal clarity identifies with that of the character, while incisive phrasing redeemed her usual passivity, restoring a proud character much closer to the Shakespearean model.

The trio of protagonists is completed by the superb Mariangela Sicilia, who, with the fullness of a beautifully crafted instrument, portrays a proud and determined Desdemona, aware of her destiny yet never restrained. Her skillful use of crystal-clear strains emphasizes the character's nobility of soul, while the ringing and projection of her upper voice highlight her determination.

Carmen (Micaëla)
Arena di VeronaAug 2025 - Sep 2025Such qualities of interpretation are found first in Micaëla of Mariangela Sicilia , with her homogeneous voice throughout its range and its velvety timbre. Her soprano is well established on its bass and its low-midrange. ...the performance is sensitive, the chastened line and the spun high notes are masterfully realized, all of which conveys the emotion of this touching and determined character...

Mariangela Sicilia , who played the role of Micaela in all the performances of the season, embodied her character with great mastery: crystal-clear high notes, precise phrasing and very delicate spun sounds. The duet in the first act with Francesco Meli ("Parle-moi de ma mère!") took on the form of an idyll in its tenderness and the aria in the third act "Je dis que rien ne m’épouvante" was one of the most moving moments of the evening.

La bohème (Mimì)
Maggio Musicale FiorentinoNov 2023The excellent Mimì by Mariangela Sicilia... proves to be the spearhead of a well-assorted cast. The soprano appears to be completely master of the role, in which she debuted in the famous 2018 Bolognese production conducted by Michele Mariotti and directed by Graham Vick.

Mimì by Mariangela Sicilia stands out above all. In fact, the dynamics to which the voice bends are surprising, especially in piano and pianissimi, as can already be seen from “Yes, they call me Mimì” which is practically whispered, almost shy. The result is a delicate Mimì with undeniable grip and charm

Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira)
Teatro Massimo di PalermoOct 2023Mariangela Sicilia also creates a wonderfully annoying Donna Elvira, whose desire for Don Giovanni is so great that she degrades herself and lacks any self-respect. Not an easy role, which Ms. Sicilia masters fabulously, because she also manages to master this stereotypical character flawlessly and embodies an excellent Donna Elvira with her precise soprano.

L'elisir d'amore (Adina)
Teatro Regio di Torino, ItalyApr 2021Mariangela Sicilia is a top-notch Adina: self-confident, strong-willed, brilliant and delicate, she stands out for her clarity in her lyrical flights and grace in her turns of graceful virtuosity. She then colors every single sentence in detail, multifaceted with ever-changing dynamics and accents, she interprets in the fullest sense of the term, finally revealing the edges and watermarks of a character that goes well beyond the classic mask.

Mariangela Sicilia 's Adina is delightful , a lyric soprano with a beautiful timbre and impeccable musicality. We have appreciated her qualities several times: the soft and fluted emission, the precision in coloratura singing, the richness of accents, combined with an undeniable stage personality. An Adina who conquers vocally and scenically!

As Adina, Mariangela Sicilia not only wrapped Nemoriono around her finger; Her soprano has a velvety, dark timbre, but easily rises to bold coloratura and impresses with its clear height and the necessary substance in the deeper regions of the part. Her acting was just as charming as her vocal delivery, making the character the likeable focal point of the story.

Alcina (Title Role)
Teatro dell'Opera di RomaMar 2025It is hard to believe that Sicilia is making her debut in this repertoire, given the assurance and personality with which she approaches the role, both in its most virtuoso aspects and in its most dramatic moments...

The novelty of the Roman edition lies in the Italian voices, in particular that of the soprano Mariangela Sicilia , who lends her virtuosity to the enchantress Alcina, skilfully sliding from seduction to dismay, from incredulity to anger...

Sicilia delivered an impeccable performance, with convincing acting and excellent singing throughout.

The rare immaculate beauty of the timbre of her voice is the enchantment with which Mariangela Sicilia at first glance captivates her listeners, and then gradually one is also totally captivated by the purest line of the melody, the dynamics calibrated down to the millimetre, the perfect control of the woodwinds, the charm with which she delivers the words, thus ensnaring the listener, who feels enclosed as if in a cocoon of golden sound. In particular, this happens in her two arias of the second act, ‘Ah, mio cor!’ and ‘Ombre pallide’, which are a true marvel, from which one is transported to a hyper-uranium world, where time does not flow as it does on this earth, so that when one finally comes to one's senses, one does not know how much time has passed, five minutes or half an hour? Let us also thank Sicilia because her coloraturas are perfect but not hyperbolic and nonsensical.
- Giornale della musica

Mariangela Sicilia confirmed her reputation as one of the finest Italian singers of her generation, offering excellent legato, clear coloratura, and expressive phrasing throughout the role of Alcina. Her "Ah! mio cor" in Act II showcased her pearly tone and great control of dynamics, while "Ombre pallide" portrayed the heroine's collapse with impressive vocal assurance.
