About Paweł
Polish Bass, Paweł Horodyski is currently a member of the Opera Studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper and he will graduate into the ensemble from next season. His roles in Munich this 2024/25 season include Un berger Pelléas et Mélisande, Ein Gefängniswärter Tosca, Erscheinung 1 Macbeth, Un sergente Manon Lescaut and Mönch in Hosokawa's Matsukaze.
Outside of Munich, Pawel will make returns to Teatr Wielki Opera Narodowa to sing Zbigniew The Haunted Manor and Kraków Opera as Figaro and make debuts at at Tiroler Festspiele to sing Lord Gualtiero Valton I Puritani under the baton of Lorenzo Passerini and Festival d'Aix-en-Provence for his role debut as Masetto Don Giovanni under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. On the concert stage, Pawel will sing Mozart’s Mass in C with NFM Wrocław Philharmonic.
Future seasons will see Pawel make his debut at Teatro di San Carlo and return to Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatr Wielki Opera Narodowa and Wroclaw Opera.
His roles at Bayerische Staatsoper last season included Lo zio Yakusidé Madama Butterfly and First Apparition Macbeth, Un berger Pelléas et Mélisande, Rascal in Carl Orff’s The Moon, Un carceriere Tosca, various roles in Shostakovich’s Die Nase and Brabantische Edle Lohengrin.
In Summer 2023, Paweł took part in the Young Singers Project at Salzburger Festspiele, where he sung L’Arbe and Le Fauteuil in a new production of Ravel’s Das Kind und die Zauberdinge. In 2022, Paweł made debut at Teatr Wielki in Warsaw as Zbigniew in Stanisław Moniuszko’s opera The Haunted Manor .
On the concert platform, recent appearances include Bach’s Mass in B minor with Bayerische Staatsorchester under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski at Munich Cathedral, Mozart’s Requiem and Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium with Wrocław Chamber Opera, Bach’s St John Passion and Mozart’s Requiem with The Silesian Philharmonic and Bach’s Lutheran Masses at Polish Royal Opera.
Born in Poland, Paweł studied singing at Fryderyk Chopin State Music School in Olsztyn and then continued his vocal training at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, studying under the guidance of Prof. Bogdan Makal. From 2019, Paweł was a member of the Academy of the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw and later, in 2022 became a member of the Youth Opera of Opera Wrocław, where his roles included the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo Così fan tutte and Zuniga Carmen.

15 Askonas Holt artists to appear at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence 2025

Friday brought the announcement of the programme for the 2025 edition of Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, with 15 Askonas Holt artists featuring across the two-week festival.
Sir Simon Rattle returns this summer and brings with him the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks to open the festival with a new production of Don Giovanni directed by Robert Icke. Making their festival debuts are Clive Bayley - who sings Il Commendatore - and Madison Nonoa as Zerlina and Paweł Horodyski as Masetto, who both also make role debuts. Sir Simon and the BRSO return later in the festival for a concert of works by Ligeti, Wagner and Bruckner.
Evan Rogister leads performances of the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée at the Grand Théâtre de Provence and at the Théâtre antique d'Orange following last year's 40th anniversary tour.
Conductor Finnegan Downie Dear makes his festival debut leading the world premiere of The Story Of Billy Budd, Sailor, starring Lies Askonas Fellow Ian Rucker who makes his festival debut singing the title role.
Elsa Dreisig returns to the festival singing the title role in Christof Loy’s new production of Louise, following her 2022 role debut as Salomé.
Also returning to the festival this year is Alex Rosen who makes a role debut as Giove in a new production of La Calisto alongside Paul-Antoine Benos-Djian also making a role debut singing Endimione, and Théo Imart singing Destiny/Satirino/Fury.
Mané Galoyan and Florian Sempey return this summer in a concert version of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of the composer. Mané makes a role debut singing Leila alongside Florian who sings Zurga.
Jakub Józef Orliński returns as well, this time for an intimate recital of Baroque arias and Polish melodies with longtime collaborator Michał Biel.
