About Paweł

Polish Bass, Paweł Horodyski is currently a member of the Opera Studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper. His roles in Munich this 2024/25 season include Un berger Pelléas et Mélisande, Ein Gefängniswärter Tosca, Erscheinung 1 Macbeth, Un sergente Manon Lescaut and Mönch in Hosokawa's Matsukaze.

Outside of Munich, Pawel will make returns to Teatr Wielki Opera Narodowa to sing Zbigniew The Haunted Manor and Kraków Opera as Figaro and make debuts at at Tiroler Festspiele to sing Lord Gualtiero Valton I Puritani under the baton of Lorenzo Passerini and Festival d'Aix-en-Provence for his role debut as Masetto Don Giovanni under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. On the concert stage, Pawel will sing Mozart’s Mass in C with NFM Wrocław Philharmonic.

Future seasons will see Pawel make his debut at Teatro di San Carlo and return to Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatr Wielki Opera Narodowa and Wroclaw Opera.

His roles at Bayerische Staatsoper last season included Lo zio Yakusidé Madama Butterfly and First Apparition Macbeth, Un berger Pelléas et Mélisande, Rascal in Carl Orff’s The Moon, Un carceriere Tosca, various roles in Shostakovich’s Die Nase and Brabantische Edle Lohengrin.

In Summer 2023, Paweł took part in the Young Singers Project at Salzburger Festspiele, where he sung L’Arbe and Le Fauteuil in a new production of Ravel’s Das Kind und die Zauberdinge. In 2022, Paweł made debut at Teatr Wielki in Warsaw as Zbigniew in Stanisław Moniuszko’s opera The Haunted Manor .

On the concert platform, recent appearances include Bach’s Mass in B minor with Bayerische Staatsorchester under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski at Munich Cathedral, Mozart’s Requiem and Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium with Wrocław Chamber Opera, Bach’s St John Passion and Mozart’s Requiem with The Silesian Philharmonic and Bach’s Lutheran Masses at Polish Royal Opera.

Born in Poland, Paweł studied singing at Fryderyk Chopin State Music School in Olsztyn and then continued his vocal training at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, studying under the guidance of Prof. Bogdan Makal. From 2019, Paweł was a member of the Academy of the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw and later, in 2022 became a member of the Youth Opera of Opera Wrocław, where his roles included the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo Così fan tutte and Zuniga Carmen.

Bayerische Staatsoper announces new season including performances from 20 Askonas Holt artists

The Bayerische Staatsoper announced their 2025/26 season over the weekend which will include performances from 20 Askonas Holt artists.

Having sung regularly in Munich as a contralto, Nathalie Stutzmann makes her conducting debut next season leading a new production of Faust. Singing Marguerite, Ailyn Pérez is joined by Florian Sempey as Valentin, as well as Emily Sierra in a role debut as Siebel. Ailyn also sings the title role in Tosca and returns to the role of Nedda in Pagliacci which she sings in Munich this spring, and Emily returns as Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, as well as making a further role debut as Adalgisa in Norma.

Following performances this coming July at the Münchner Opernfestspiele as Rusalka, Asmik Grigorian returns next season in the title role in Salome. She’ll be back at the festival next summer singing Lady Macbeth. Nadine Sierra returns as Gilda in a new production of Rigoletto alongside Bekhzod Davronov as the Duke of Mantua. Bekhzod also makes a role debut as Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore

Rachel Willis-Sørensen sings Rosalind in Die Fledermaus, followed by Leonora in Il trovatore, while Joélle Harvey returns as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro.

Jessica Niles makes a role debut singing Morgana in a new production of Alcina, and Shannon Keegan makes her Bayerische Staatsoper debut in her first performances as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly. Also making both house and role debuts is Jess Dandy who sings Mrs Tootle in the Opera Studio’s production of Hans Werner Henze’s The English Cat.

Following performances together in Munich this season, Dorothea Röschmann, Xabier Anduaga, and Dafydd Jones return as the Marquise de Berkenfield, Tonio and Ein Landmann respectively in La Fille du Regiment.

Germán Olvera makes his house debut in La bohéme singing Schaunard, which is also a role debut. Germán is part of a cast led by Stephen Costello who sings Rodolfo, which he recently sang for his 100th performance at the Metropolitan Opera.

Ben Bliss returns as Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and René Barbera as Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola. Paweł Horodyski joins the ensemble after two years in the Opera Studio.
